Blank Canvas

{Anthropologie dress and sunglasses, vintage handbag, Tahari flats, Madewell necklace, J.Crew belt}

The magic of solid pieces in neutral colors is that they can serve as a blank canvas for countless styling possibilities. This simple Anthopologie dress does just that. It can be easily paired with a whole array of different style and color accessories. I especially love pairing it with black for a classic combination or  with a touch of red for a more fun and flirty look.

Embroidered Shorts

{Ahthropologie shorts, Theory top, Carole Little wedges, J.Crew necklace and Margot handbag}

 One thing that I try to avoid wearing at all costs are shorts. Don't get me wrong, I think they can look fabulous on girls with the right assets. I on the other hand try not to leave a house in anything shorter than my lower thighs.

This pair of shorts sat in my closet for more than a year until I finally found the courage to wear them out in public. This is almost ground breaking! It certainly helps that these shorts have a generous length and embroidered folds, that beside looking pretty also work as camouflage for the hips.

Striped

{J.Crew dress and belt, Belle by Sigerson Morrison flats, vintage handbag, Anthropologie sunglasses, Banana Republic necklace}

This J.Crew number is what I call a perfect summer dress. It has a well defined waist, hits right at the knee and doesn't need much accessorizing. As if that's not enough reasons to love, it's also striped! And that alone is a good enough reason to snag it.

I picked up this lovely vintage handbag back in the spring, but kept waiting for the right outfit to pair it with. Credit goes to my dear friend Justyna who spotted it at Store B Vintage. I absolutely love the ornamental closure of the piece. It makes it feel truly special.

Birds of a Feather

{Anthropologie skirt, J.Crew top and necklace, Carole Little wedges, Margot handbag, Fossil belt}

Once in a while I come across a piece of clothing that makes me happy the moment I put it on. This Anthropologie skirt is a perfect example of that. City houses, happy little birdies flying around... tell me it doesn't it lift up your mood just a little? And what better way to add even more cheer to this whimsical scene than to pair it with some stripes. I don't even need sunshine!

Navy and Lace

{Madewell top and necklace, J.Crew skirt and handbag, Carole Little wedges, Anthropologie bracelets}

This J.Crew skirt could easily be my favorite purchase in years. It is the most versatile item in my closet. It goes with nearly every top I own, from t-shirts to silk blouses. Since I was feeling a little romantic before my weekend stroll around the neighborhood with Mr. C, I decided to pair it with some lace. I love the classic color combo of white and navy and how the lace detail made the outfit a bit more sweet and special.

A Hint of Peplum

{Anthropologie top and skirt, J.Crew belt, Madewell jewelry, Margot handbag, Carole Little wedges}

I love the look of peplum tops, skirts and dresses. They can do wonders for your waistline when fitted properly. The trouble is, they can also make you look wider if the peplum sits too high on your natural waist or if it flares out too far away from the hips. Having a long torso makes this problem way too common for me, not only with this trend but also when choosing any piece of clothing with a defined waist. Luckily this Anthropologie top fits perfectly. It is long torso friendly, if you will. I also like that the barely there peplum doesn't add the unnecessary bulk to the widest part of my body.

Par Avion

{Anthropologie dress, sunglasses, and bracelet, J.Crew belt}

Last week I took a short trip to my native Lithuania. Short as in days spent at the destination not the time it took to get there and back (42 dreadful hours of pacing the airports and fighting to get comfortable on planes in the span of just 10 days felt anything but short.) It was a very unexpected last minute decision but one I'm so glad I made. I needed to get away from the routine and spend some time close to my family and my culture. I was going to continue posting while overseas, I even did some work beforehand to save myself some time later. However, all my plans went out the window after my arrival. I apologize for that. I was lazy. Although after 20 something hours of travelling topped with an 8 hour time difference, it's no surprise that one would feel less than enthusiastic about staring at a computer screen.

The main reason I couldn't make myself write a single post, though, was that I simply didn't want to waste a minute doing anything else but spend quality time with my loved ones. The truth is, it was the second time I got to see them in 11 years. So, yes, every minute was precious, and I wanted to dedicate it solely to them. Many of my friends and relatives didn't even know about my visit this time around. I can only hope that they will understand my desire to give this short time I had to my mom and my sister. Though brief, this was a week I dreamed about and long for so desperately. It was quiet, but so fulfilling. It's amazing how simple everyday things like walks in the park or trips to the mall can become unforgettable moments when you were denied them for a decade. Suddenly just sitting next your mom or hearing your sister open up to you for the first time in years can bring tears to your eyes.

OK, this is getting a bit too emotional (where are the violins?). The important thing is I'm back (at least physically, anyway) with more outfits and simple delights to share. Thanks for sticking with me.

I deeply appreciate art. I always have. So it's no surprise that I'm a complete sucker for wearable art. Whenever I come across a piece of clothing, accessory, or a home item that incorporates a painting or a photograph in the design, I HAVE to have it. It's my weakness and my beloved store, Anthropologie, knows it. Every year they offer at least a few pieces that could happily hang on your walls if they weren't a skirt, dress or handbag. This Sarah Ball photo dress is so unique, yet has a classic shirtdress shape. All you need is a good old belt to define the waist and you're good to go.
