Simple Delights

{A bouquet of roses in the prettiest shade of ballerina-slipper pink.}

{A quiet afternoon with a selection of interior design magazines and soft-baked cookies.}

This particular spread makes me want to work on growing my (tiny as of yet) blue and white porcelain collection.  I feel a major urge to go antiquing.

{Proof that mother nature is the best artist there is.}

We noticed this incredible frost pattern on our window one late evening and had to capture it on film. Growing up in a cold climate I've seen quite a few impressive feather or fern-like frost patterns, but this one was so unique that it left us in awe and disbelief.

{Family heirlooms.}

Knowing how sentimental a person I am, and how much I long for anything that reminds me of my home in Lithuania, my mother created a very special gift for me. She gathered a few little treasures from the past (silver spoons and a ring from her childhood, her favorite pair of earrings, a few Lithuanian coins that were recently replaced by euros) and framed them in a shadowbox. It is so comforting and heartwarming to have a little piece of my native country and family history in my home.

The little painting below is another item I brought back from home that holds a lot of meaning. It is one of my mother's old paintings inspired by the best-known Lithuanian fairy tale Egle the Queen of Serpents. I will cherish these items forever and hopefully pass them on to my children some day.

{Wrist warmers I brought back from Lithuania that can turn a plain old sweater into something special.}

  1. Those wrist warmers are cool!

    I'm sure you miss your home.

    Did you bake the cookies yourself? They look delish! Would love to have the recipe : )

    1. The cookies are from the bakery of a local grocery store. I wish I could say I baked them myself, unfortunately cooking is not my thing. I really admire women who do it well and actually enjoy it, I just don't think I'll ever be one of them. Maybe in my next life I'll come back as a domestic goddess, whipping up scrumptious desserts on a regular basis.

  2. Beautiful photos! I love the color of those roses. There is something so fresh and beautiful about blue and white porcelain. You should check out these candleholders my friend has in her storied goods shop. (http://www.thesafaricollective.com/shop/painted-candlestick-holders). I'm sure they'd make a great addition to your collection! xo

    1. These are beautiful! Thank you so much for sending me the link. I love the whole shop! Do you think your friend would be open to talk with a stranger like me about setting up an online store? I've been looking for a mentor or anyone who can shine some light about opening a small retail business.
