Charleston was another city where we clearly went overboard taking pictures. Even after heavy editing, this post still ended up longer than it probably should have. I hope you don't mind. It's one of those towns where you simply can't put the camera down. Every building, every street or courtyard here exudes charm. It would be a shame to walk through it without capturing it on film. Charleston is full of those picture-perfect colonial style homes that I have such weakness for. In fact, many of them are so impeccable and grand that you might find yourself feeling a little out of place. As my husband put it while driving down one of the streets lined with some of the most marvelous, ridiculously enormous homes, "I feel like I'm driving somewhere in Hollywood." It's a feast for your eyes undoubtedly, but it can also make you feel uneasy, or quite frankly, downright poor.
Each house had a different style front door, unique, like a fingerprint - no two were alike.
All the lush greenery only adds to the allure of these historic homes.
Many homes had private drives and walkways, leading to mysterious places just out of sight.
Charleston's nickname is the Holy City. There is a church on almost every corner, each one prettier than the other.

Single houses are one of the most common home styles in the older areas of Charleston. What looks like the front door is actually the side door that opens to the front porch. It's as if the entire house was turned sideways.
